Colourful Celebration of Bengali New Year 1422 Organised by Kushtia Gurukul

The first day of Boishakh was transformed into a vibrant, joyous, and colourful festival under the arrangement of the country’s leading educational group, Gurukul Education Family. Throughout the day, students, teachers, officials, and staff came together to celebrate the Bengali New Year through a series of programmes, cultural performances, traditional games, and a spirited gathering of the Gurukul community.

Festival of Colours in the Mangal Shobhajatra

At 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, a grand Mangal Shobhajatra (auspicious procession) commenced from the courtyard of Kushtia Campus–1, located in Kalishankarpur. Students, adorned with symbolic elements such as traditional drums (dhak), decorated fans (kula), colourful alpana motifs, masks, and replicas of the traditional panta ilish dish, paraded through the main streets of the city. The procession featured iconic symbols of Bengali culture, including tiger masks, palanquins, rural farming tools, and Boishakhi flags, which drew special attention from spectators. The procession concluded at Kushtia Campus–2 in Hospital Mor.

Traditional Games and Cultural Performances

Following the procession, a series of traditional rural games were held, including tug-of-war, pillow fights, blind man’s buff (kanamachi), and gollachut. Later, under the arrangement of the Gurukul Cultural Club, a captivating cultural programme took place featuring songs, dances, poetry recitations, and short plays, which added even more colour and festivity to the Boishakhi celebrations.

Discussion Session and Humorous Debate

A highlight of the day was a humorous debate competition held to mark the New Year celebrations.
The topic was: “In Boishakhi Love, Let Friendship Triumph”.

Members of the Gurukul Debating Club presented lively arguments both for and against the motion, blending wit, humour, and insightful commentary, much to the delight of the audience. The “for” team emerged victorious.

Message of the Bengali New Year

Speakers emphasised that Pohela Boishakh is not merely a day of festivity, but a reflection of the Bengali people’s heritage, culture, and identity. They noted that Gurukul Education Family celebrates this day every year with enthusiasm and passion, aiming to instil a stronger sense of patriotism and cultural awareness among its students.
